2018 was one of the most successful years for the club on the national exhibition circuit.
At the Wexford MRC show in April the club won the Michael Curran Memorial Award for the Best OO Scale Layout with Rosslare Strand. It also won the award for the Best Scenery.
Later that month the new Kildare Station layout won the award for the Best Irish Layout at the North Down MRC show in Bangor.
At the Erne MRC show in Enniskillen the Hayden Road layout won the Alice & Ken Wiggins Perpetual Shield.
Finally, at the MRSI show in Raheny in October the Kildare Station layout won the Best in Show Award as voted for by the MRSI members.
Kildare Town, the newest layout of the SDMRC, made its debut exhibition appearance at the North Down MRC show in April where it won the Best Operating Layout award. The layout depicts the station in the modern era with the adjoining infrastructure depot and a detailed and lively local match in the adjoining GAA grounds. Work is continuing on adding further detail to the layout which it is intended to exhibit again at the Friends of Cultra exhibition next November.
Rosslare Strand was exhibited at the Wexford MRC show over the Easter weekend. It attracted a lot of attention and was given two awards; the Michael Curren Memorial Award for the Best OO Gauge Layout and the Best Scenery layout.
